Kayaking at Cacapon State Park in West Virginia Women in the Outdoor Event

I grew up loving the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with my family on Sunday Outings.  We would go on picnics and go fishing together when I was a child up until my teens.  I would always catch the little sunfish also known as blue gills.  I was disappointed when my fish were too little that I couldn’t take them home.  My Dad taught me a lot of things about the outdoors.  Like for instance “being quiet when you’re hunting and not asking so many questions.”

My husband of over 20 years is an avid outdoorsman who loves to hunt and shoot competition.  Which I enjoyed learning from him.  He has taught me how to hunt, shoot with my rifle, and how to shoot my compound bow.  I was very appreciative to see the wildlife up close.  It was an experience I have never done before.  When I’m outside in my tree stand or in my blind I can sit there and just watch the wildlife all around me.  To me this is an amazing event.  My husband is also my inspiration for the outdoors.   I enjoy learning and spending time with him.  I also spend my time relaxing by horseback riding, knitting, crocheting, reading and traveling and most importantly spending time with our daughters.

I am also member of the NRA and I have taken a shotgun and pistol classes through the “Women On Target Program”.  This was a very fun and learning event for me.  I was able to see and shoot all kinds of pistols and shotguns at both of these clinics.  They taught me how to shoot the guns properly, the safety of handling, and carrying the guns.  I’m also a member of the NWTF and went to one of their “Women in the Outdoors Event” last summer and really enjoyed myself.  I was able to learn how to shoot a Bow and did some Kayaking for the first time. I learned how to use several different kinds of Turkey Calls from box to the mouth calls.  I did some Hiking and learned about different types of native and poisonous plants from my guide. It definitely was a wonderful learning experience for me and to get me out of my comfort zone.   I also have been a member for the WOMA and for the WON for a year now.   I have been reviewing and marketing merchandise for the WON page and writing about my experiences in the outdoors.

Life to me is wonderful when the outdoors is involved.  Even if it’s taking a Hike through the woods, I enjoy the fresh air and seeing the wildlife. I’m also looking forward to my first Spring Gobbler Turkey Season in 2010! I would really enjoy calling them in with my all the training I had with the “Women In the Outdoors” clinic.
